Cydia Substrate 0 9 5015 For iOS 8 8 1 Released

Last week we saw the Pangu8 untethered jailbreak for iOS 8 and 8.1 released. In order for this to work properly, Cydia author Saurik had to make some impromptu fixes to the Cydia Substrate. The new Pangu Untether 0.2 was rolled out yesterday and a number for additional bugs have been addressed in a new version of Substrate. If you have jailbroken your idevice on iOS 8 using Pangu, then this is a very necessary update as it fixes issues with booting, syncing, and other major challenges that the jailbreak community faced over the past week.

A lot of jailbreakers presume that achieving an untethered jailbreak is as easy as simply installing Cydia on your device and then going ahead and installing tweaks. This is so not the case, as we have seen with the Pangu jailbreak for iOS 8 / 8.1. There are a number of components that have to operate together and Cydia Substrate is fundamental to the entire process.

Pangus roll out of iOS 8 8.1.x Untether 0.2 yesterday exposed a number of new bugs in Cydia Substrate and Saurik and his team has really quickly come through with an update. The Cydia Substrate 0.9.5014 fixes a few bugs reported on iOS 8 with 0.9.5013, including apps do not install, iTunes does not sync, and icons are gone. This issue sometimes led to devices being unable to boot without disabling Substrate. Cydia Substrate 0.9.5014 is the main update even though Saurik has followed up with version 0.9.5015 with a fix for OpenSSH.

What this all means is that the new Pangu Untether and Cydia Substrate should work together now and it is recommended that anyone that has already jailbroken their iOS 8 device should go ahead and install both as quickly as possible. The Untether 0.2 package is available through the Pangu app, while Cydia Substrate 0.9.5015 is available on the Cydia/Telesphoreo repository. You can of course simply launch Cydia, tap on Changes and then upgrade.

The issue with freezing on the reboot of a device that is lock using a Passcode or Touch ID has yet to be rectified, so you will need to disable this feature for the time being. Pangu8 really is shaping up to be a great jailbreak tool even with a couple of kinks still needing to be ironed out.

Pangu For iOS 8 1 Is Stable Enough Update And Jailbreak Now While You Still Can

Apple have rolled out their beta version of iOS 8.1. and along with all their usual bug fixes and minor tweaks, the main thing that the jailbreak community is concerned with is the fact that it plugs exploits that have permitted Pangu8 to work its magic. This means that when iOS 8.1.1 is officially released to the public, you will lose your jailbreak if you update to this firmware version.

If you have already updated to iOS 8.0 or are running on any other firware, you will still be able to jailbreak your device using Pangu, but with iOS 8.1 being quite a heavy update it does make sense to update to this version if you havent yet. We never know when beta software is going to be released and the advice from the Pangu team is that anybody planning on jailbreaking in the near future should be making all the necessary precautions now before its too late. This means updating your devices to iOS 8.1 by running a restore through iTunes.

The Pangu team have publically stated on Twitter that Apple will release iOS 8.1.1 soon, and that you should update to 8.1 now, while its still being signed because the update will patch the jailbreak. Also taking to twitter was Cydia creator Saurik who was happy to tell his followers that if there are waiting until things are stable enough to jailbreak devices running on iOS 8.0 to 8.1 then they should do it now using Pangu as it is stable enough.

The people behind that last few jailbreaks have continually advised users to restore in iTunes rather than applying an OTA, which can throw up issues of its own during the jailbreak process, so if you are updating to iOS 8.1 for the purpose of using Pangu, then be sure to connect your device to your PC and do it this way. Once you have iOS 8.1 up and running on your device you can do what you want from there as long as you dont update, youll be able to jailbreak using Pangu8 at any time and run Cydia on your device.

Thats all we have for the moment but as soon as any other news makes it our way, we will be sure to let you know.
